Common questions about Rust hosting
What happens after I pay for a Rust server?
Payment happens on our secure billing site. Your server is set up automatically after payment and your panel login is emailed to you.
Where are ForgeWorld Gaming Rust servers hosted?
In Iowa, United States. One region for now, and we say so instead of drawing a map full of flags.
Is there a setup fee or a contract?
No setup fee, and you can cancel any time. Prices are in Canadian dollars; paying from the US, your card or payment account converts the charge to US dollars. On the billing site you see the monthly price of the plan you picked before any payment is taken.
How many players can a Rust server hold?
The Rust Standard plan is open for orders with 50 player slots, at CA$31.49 a month. Sizes not listed here are not available yet. If you need a different size, email support@fwg.world (no account needed; account holders can also open a ticket) and we confirm what is possible by email.
Does ForgeWorld Gaming support Oxide mods and plugins on Rust servers?
We list Rust as Oxide ready, which is the software line you see when you configure a plan. For specific plugins, wipe schedules, or world settings, email support@fwg.world with what you need and we confirm what is possible by email. No account is needed; if you already have a billing account you can open a ticket instead.
Which ports does the Rust server use?
The game port, 28015 UDP by default, and a separate query port - both UDP, and Facepunch's documentation states the two cannot share the same number. The query port is what lets the server appear in the in-game browser.
Where does the Rust server keep its configuration?
In server.cfg, inside rust/server/<server.identity>/cfg/. Facepunch's wiki notes the server reads that file at startup and it takes priority over anything set on the launch command line.
Why would Oxide plugins disappear from the Rust server after a restart?
Facepunch's wiki notes that a start-up script which reruns SteamCMD on every launch reverts the files to vanilla, which removes Oxide, and that Oxide also needs reinstalling after every Rust update.
